Changes to EUCS 2027
We would like to share the outcomes and key decisions from the recent EUF Competition Work Weekend held in Guntramsdorf, Austria. From Friday evening, March 13th, through Sunday afternoon, March 15th, a dedicated working group met to refine the future of the European Ultimate Club Series (EUCS).
Attendees: Andrea Furlan (EUF), Felix Nemec (EUF, AUT), Simon Hill (UK), Ludovic Romano (FRA), Nadine Fischer (GER), Jaromir Jachym (CZE, EUF), Sara Rabaglia (EUF), Manuel Belluco (ITA), Amber Oladeji (EUF), Ravi Vasudevan (EUF), Paula Baas (NED, EUF).
The following conclusions were reached regarding the 2027/2028 seasons and the structural evolution of our elite competitions. These changes aim to make the competition structure tighter and more prestigious, aligning the EUCS with the standards of other major global club championships.
1. 2027 Season Structure & Calendar
To provide better predictability for players and federations, we have established a standardized calendar. The dates for 2027 events are now more fixed to improve long-term planning. The goal is for these dates to remain consistent; any future adjustments should see the entire block of tournaments move in unison (± 1 week).

To ensure a cohesive European season, National Federations will be able to submit their own domestic calendars to the EUF. This will allow us to create a uniform platform that minimizes scheduling conflicts. More updates on this soon.
2. EUCF & The New "Division 2"
To increase the quality of the top-tier competition while addressing recurring venue and organizational challenges, the following changes were decided:
Club Finals: Limited to the top 12 teams (down from the current 16).
Requirements: Minimum of 6 fields.
Format: 2-2-1 schedule of three-day competition with pools of 3 teams leading directly into Quarterfinals.
Division 2 - Challenger Final: A second-tier "Challenger" line will be introduced to maintain high-level play for developing teams.
Timing: To be held on the same weekend as EUCF.
Incentive: The winner of Division 2 will receive a Wildcard spot for the following year’s Elite Invite.
Number of Teams: 8 per division
Format: 2 days
3. Qualification & Naming Conventions
Mandatory Participation: Participation in at least two Tour events is required as a qualification for EUCF 2027.
Rebranding: We are moving toward the terms Tour 1, 2, and 3 to remove the previous Spring/Summer distinction and emphasize that all events are accessible to the community (except the restricted Elite Invite).
4. Roster Regulations (2027–2028) - To be finalised end of 2026
We are evaluating a gradual reduction in master roster sizes to encourage more focused squad management:
2027: Maximum Master Roster size limited to 32 players.
5. Next Steps & Open Topics
The early announcement of these 2027 changes is intended to allow National Federations sufficient time to prepare. We expect to release the full implementation guidelines within the next few months.
